through my tracing of how people come to look at my pictures, i discovered that i'm the posterboy for sourdough bread! as of this moment, the picture of sourdough bread in the upper left here:
http://www.mahalo.com/sourdough-bread
is mine.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/8748128%40N02/3675766088
great!
except. . . that picture is licensed. the license states that there must be an attribution. i'm ok with a click-through being an attribution, and further down the page the same picture is shown with a click-through. however, in the upper left, there's nothing. here's the license in case you're interested:
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.0/deed.en
so, i've emailed them, saying the above, as well:
"please either update your page generation software to allow click-throughs on the picture reproduced on the upper left hand side, or cease using pictures that require attribution in that location."
d'ya think i'll get a response? i'll post again if and when i do.

If they don't reply, start mailing them dead slugs...
Actually, your email may have worked. I clicked through to your Flicker page.
on the upper left?
still doesn't click through for me. the one in set of images does, though (but that did before).
Aha! Firefox with NoScript blocks that image unless you allow the script from mahalo to run.
Get the slug box ready.
so, are you saying that they do have it set up that you can click through, but only if one is using a less secure browser?
internet explorer 8 also doesn't allow a click-through on that upper left image.
I'm saying that with the script blocked, the upper-left-hand image doesn't even show up.
ah, i see.
i had tried to right-click that image and see what it had listed as its properties, and got nothing--apparently because the image isn't really "there" but is just scripted there.
no response from them yet.
So I wonder if they're serving the image from their own server or if they're just linking to yours.
You could try replacing your sourdough picture with another image with the exact same name...
The possibilities are endless.
flickr does allow you to "revise" a photo, so i could slap a "testing in progress" jpg up there or something and test it out, yes.
i wonder how long is good nettiquette for waiting for a response from a faceless internet presence?
"Testing in Progress?"
How about "Mahalo Smokes Bone" or "Mahalo Steals Links" or "Suck Eggs!" as a way to get their attention?
eh, that would take effort.
i just made the photo private as a test: at least they're not hanging onto the photo or something; it pretty instantaneously went to "not available." but they're not actively updated their search on the page, either.
So they do just point their link directly to Flickr! My instincts were correct.
My suggestions now are to make the bread picture turn into the chimp from the last Prisoner episode or simply an image with the words "Sourdough Bread is People!" on it.
